Parents to GEN-Z;

You are not witnessing a rebellious generation, you are dealing with a displaced one.

A child can grow away from you and still love you. Remember, you and those children exist and grow in a different reality.

When you force your space into theirs without understanding, friction is inevitable.

The older generation refuses to step back because they think they are not old. The younger one is not allowed to step forward even when he/she believes he/she is old enough. This is where the rain started beating us.

I call it identity suffocation.

You told these children that education is the key. They listened, sat in classrooms, collected degrees and then, you blocked the very doors you told them to walk through.

You ask for years of experience from those you never allowed to gain any, while holding onto positions long after your season has passed.

I see in counties, just because you are related to the governor, you can sit in that office until you are dragged out by the next one.

We have all witnessed 80 and 90 year old politicians being appointed as youth leaders in a country that has vibrant youths! Then we shout on the media,” Kazi Kwa vijana”.

Most old people label the young as lazy, entitled and rebellious, just because their spaces don’t align.

Trust me, they are not lazy they are reacting.

You cannot delay a man, confuse him, cage his growth, and expect him to remain calm.

When wisdom does not step back, force will step forward.

That rebellion you see is pressure from blocked purpose, delayed identity, and a system that preaches growth but rewards stagnation.

Old age is not meant to compete with youth, but to create space for it.

Respect is not demanded by age; it is earned by how well you prepare the next human to replace you.

If you refuse to become a guide, you will become an obstacle and once you become an obstacle, the youth will stop asking for permission and start taking space.

Most of the old are scared of what will happen to them when they retire. They are used to handouts and allowances that come with their tittles.

The wave will take you out if you don’t pave way or mentor the ones behind you.
