“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.”

But who told you this?
In my case, I was just regurgitating what I heard from other people.
I found my parents taking morning breakfast and I got assimilated into it.
I could get so tired and sleepy and at some point I thought, maybe I am not a morning person.
Cereal companies, food manufacturers and their marketing departments are the reason behind this famous saying.
Industries that needed you to eat early so they could sell you something.
Today, families wake up and the first thing they do is pour sugar into their bodies:
- Bread. By the way, the time I am doing my morning runs or walk, there’s a lorry in my village that supplies bread. Very early and timely.
- Tea with sugar and milk.
- Biscuits.
- Mandazi, chapati
- Breakfast cereals
- Pancakes.
- Sweetened yoghurt.
- Fruit juice etc
We have turned mornings into glucose loading sessions and we are paying the price.
When you wake up, your body is naturally balanced. Your hormones are set to burn fat, repair, and prepare for the day.
But the moment you eat high-carb breakfast, especially sugar and starch, several things happen:
- Blood sugar shoots up, your pancreas must release large amounts of insulin.
- Your body is forced to store fat instead of burning it. Insulin = fat storage hormone.
- Two hours later you feel hungry, shaky, tired or craving again and so you snack again; more tea, biscuits, chapati, fries, fruit juice.
This cycle repeats daily and slowly it creates:
- Weight gain.
- Belly fat.
- Insulin resistance.
- Diabetes.
- Hypertension.
- Fatty liver.
- Constant hunger and food addictions.
- Fatigue and brain fog.
- Hormonal imbalance.
Not because you eat too much, but because you eat too often and too early. You also eat the wrong food products.
Your body was designed to go hours without food. Our ancestors didn’t wake up to bread and tea. They hunted, worked, walked and then ate later.
When you delay your first meal, insulin goes down, fat burning increases, inflammation reduces, energy improves,c clarity improves and weight begins to drop naturally.
This is called Intermittent Fasting / delaying breakfast, and it is one of the most powerful lifestyle tools for health recovery.
Skipping breakfast won’t kill you. Try it this festive season.
