Why do women fear menopause that much?

Why do women fear menopause that much?

Is it because of the stories you have heard?

You expect:

  • Hot flushes,
  • Mood swings,
  • Weight gain,
  • Loss of intimacy and vaginal dryness,
  • Poor sleep,
  • Anxiety and sometimes depression,
  • Memory loss
  • and the feeling that they are getting old.

But menopause is not a disease. It is a natural biological process that every woman who lives long enough will experience. The challenge is not menopause, it is how prepared your body is for the transition. Most women are not.

Menopause is officially diagnosed after 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period, marking the end of ovarian reproductive function.

During this transition, estrogen and progesterone levels decline, while the brain increases production of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) in an attempt to stimulate the ovaries. These hormonal changes explain many of the symptoms women experience.

As progesterone declines, many women become more prone to insulin resistance, increased abdominal fat, and a higher risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. But if you look closely, these have everything to do with the lifestyles women live even before menopause.

This is why maintaining a healthy lifestyle becomes even more important before and during menopause.

Regular physical activity, especially resistance training will help preserve muscle mass and bone strength.

Eating a nutrient dense diet rich in cruciferous vegetables, animal protein and healthy saturated fats, supports overall health.

Prioritizing sleep, easing stress, avoiding smoking and alcohol together with the inflammatory foods will win the game.

Some may need hormone replacement therapy, but before that, have you gone the lifestyle way first?
Menopause is not something to fear, it is something to prepare for. Now that you know it will come, why not start preparing now.
